Advantages
▸ Werewolves are much stronger and more durable than humans, but it's not possible to knock down walls or toss cars and they aren't invincible. Their vision is capable of immediately detecting the smallest motion even in the dark. Hearing is broad and far-reaching but depends on obstacles and noise. The sense of smell is strong enough to differentiate scents from up to a mile away in favorable conditions. Werewolves are immune to human disease and defects.
Disadvantages
▸Werewolves are slower and less agile than humans. Their vision is weaker at picking out small details in the dark, and their hearing isn't acute enough to find heartbeats.
Vulnerabilities
▸Werewolves are nearly immortal but can be permanently killed by severing the brain from the spine, a rowan stake to the heart, and being burned to ashes. Healing is incredibly fast depending on diet and health, but they are also vulnerable to wolfsbane, silver, rowan, moonseed, poisons, sedatives and normal weapons. A temporary, deathlike coma can happen when a massive injury or starvation occurs, or when certain items are used.
Feeding
▸Werewolves depend on raw muscle meat to survive. Human is their first choice and will give them full vitality and healing as long as they consume twelve pounds of meat each week. An average human male could potentially feed six werewolves for a week. But meat can only be preserved for a week before it loses its nutritional value. This means meat bought at a supermarket is not a possible substitute. Animal meat is a second choice because it lessens abilities and health. A third choice is Synth, which is a supplement that was engineered by the Center for Coexistence which can be added to anything. It's colorless and has a mild metallic flavor. Two pills is the equivalent of a pound of muscle meat.
Feeding on other werewolves is a last resort and inhuman meat provides the same benefit as animal blood. Werewolves can consume human food and drinks but there is no nutritional benefit. Drugs and alcohol have only a brief effect. Younglings and yearlings have less control over their feeding urges than adults
Moon effect
▸When werewolves who have not maintained a complete diet of raw human meat encounter the full moon, they are forced into a feeding frenzy. They may begin to feel the effect a few days before and it may last a few days after, but the need peaks when the moon is 100% full. The frenzy might be extreme or mild, depending on the werewolf's Health Grade. If the body is able, it's forced to shift. Even werewolves with a Health Grade A may feel the moon pulling at their instincts, but won't be forced into the frenzy.
juveniles will not be able to control the urges the come with this effect. A young werewolf experiences its first feeding frenzy during the first full moon after turning three months old. With experience, the effect can be resisted or even minimized with the use of valerian.
Ability
▸Werewolves can shift at will to a fully wolf form and back again but only once in a 24 hour period. This gives them tremendous advantages when hunting because the human form isn't well equipped for the kill. Feeding after shifting is needed to refuel the body. The wolf form at the shoulder is 2/3 the human height and it looks like a normal timber wolf but much larger. Werewolves can understand one another no matter the form, though in wolf form they can only make wolf sounds and convey ideas.
When a werewolf shifts, bones breaks and reform, muscles and tendons stretch and tear, organs shift. Hair, fur and skin morph with the body. All of this heals by the time the shift is complete. Clothing and possessions could be ruined if not removed first. It's not possible to shift part way and then back, or function well until it is finished. When shifting is interrupted, the body reverts to the default human form. A werewolf cannot remain in wolf form for more than half a day (12 hours) at a time because of the stress it places on the body.
Shifting takes time and is painful, leaving the werewolf vulnerable for a short period and a bit weak after. Shifting with A health begins in one post and finishes in the second post that ends with a brief recovery period, making all but minor actions improbable until the following post.
